Bryan Rusch is a 5th year PhD candidate in the Art History program. Bryan's primary research is on the history of medical architecture, focusing on the 19th Century. Though his case studies focus on American hospitals, he studies the international history of medical pedagogy and how it was both informed by and weaponized under colonial projects in the MENA region. His prior research examined the Islamic guild and legal systems of North Africa and their relationship to urban planning. His research is united by a focus on materialism and embodiment, and informed by trans-historical and trans-cultural disability studies.
