Duke Middle East Studies Center Support

If you are Duke faculty or staff working on issues related to the Middle East and Islam in academia, we would be pleased to support your intellectual events and projects. The centers especially wish to provide funding for workshops and discussions of work-in-progress papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals and chapters in book manuscripts for university presses. We also encourage and hope to fund events (both small academic workshops and large public events) at the university which are collaborative, interdisciplinary, and co-funded. The involvement of students is always a plus. We also would be happy to fund unusual formats and intellectually challenging brainstorming sessions. The centers welcome any ideas and proposals but please note that funding is competitive.

Requirements:

For proposals which request less than $500 we just need a one-paragraph description, proposed time, and a detailed mini-budget. For proposals which request more than $500 please prepare also a min. one-page description.

Timing:

The committees normally meet once a month but in case of an urgent issue please indicate this in your application and we try to decide as fast as possible.
