The Israeli and Palestinian Jesus: Mediating Religion and Politics through Holy Land Pilgrimage
Speaker
Jackie Feldman
The UNC Anthropology Colloquium welcomes Jackie Feldman, Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and visiting Israel Institute Professor at UNC for a colloquium on "The Israeli and Palestinian Jesus: Mediating Religion and Politics through Holy Land Pilgrimage." In Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land, travel agents, guides and pastors lead visitors in the footsteps of Jesus, often choosing and narrating sites and landscapes in ways that imbue divergent understandings of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with transcendent meaning.
