Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies

The Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies, a collaboration between the Duke University Middle East Studies Center and the Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies at UNC, promotes and coordinates Middle East studies at the two universities.

This collaboration, dating back decades, was institutionalized in 1994 through the Carolina Seminar in Comparative Islamic Studies, which brings together faculty, visiting scholars, graduate students, undergraduates, and community members for scholarly and cultural events relating to the Middle East and to Muslim communities around the world.

A joint center, now known as the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies, was founded in 2005 to broaden this cooperation.

DUMESC is part of the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies. The consortium combines the strengths of our center with those of the Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies.
