DUMESC is part of the Duke-UNC Consortium for Middle East Studies. The consortium combines the strengths of our center with those of the Carolina Center for the Study of the Middle East and Muslim Civilizations.

With support from Title VI, the consortium works to strengthen language instruction in Arabic, Hebrew, Persian and Turkish at Duke and UNC, offer programs events about the Middle East on both campuses, strengthen graduate student offerings, and provide foreign language and area studies fellowships for students. The consortium also educates teachers, professionals and other community members about the Middle East and provides funds for course development, research and travel for Duke and UNC faculty members.
